Intensive Couples Therapy in Marion, Ohio

Is traditional weekly therapy not working for you?

  • “We keep having the same fight.” You’ve talked about the problems, processed the issues, and even understand why you’re stuck—but nothing seems to actually change between sessions.

  • “An hour a week isn’t enough.” By the time you get into the real issue, the session is over, and you’re left trying to manage the fallout for another six days.

  • “We’re at a turning point.” You’re facing separation, rebuilding trust, a major betrayal, communication breakdown, or another crisis that feels too important to address in 50 minutes a week.

  • “We need more than talking.” You want concentrated time to actually practice new ways of communicating, regulating, repairing, reconnecting, and making decisions together—not just discuss what went wrong.

  • “We love each other, but we’re exhausted.” You don’t necessarily want to give up on the relationship. You want focused, intensive support to figure out whether—and how—you can move forward together.

Intensive Therapy FAQs

What is couples intensive therapy, and how is it different from weekly therapy?

Couples intensive therapy gives you concentrated time to work on your relationship instead of trying to untangle years of conflict in 50 minutes once a week. We can slow things down, identify the patterns keeping you stuck, practice new ways of communicating and connecting, and actually spend enough time on the work to create meaningful movement.

What if we’ve already tried couples therapy and nothing changed?

You’re not alone. Sometimes weekly therapy simply isn’t enough for the complexity of what you’re dealing with. An intensive allows us to go deeper, stay with an issue longer, and work through multiple layers of the relationship without having to stop just as things are getting somewhere. It’s a different pace and a different experience—not just more of the same.

Do we have to be in crisis to benefit from an intensive?

Not at all. Intensives can be incredibly helpful when you know something needs to change but don't want to wait until your relationship is completely falling apart. They can also be useful during major transitions, after a rupture or betrayal, when you're struggling to reconnect, or when you simply want to create a stronger relationship with focused support.

What if we’re not sure whether we want to stay together?

That’s okay. You don't have to arrive with a decision already made. An intensive can provide a structured, supported space to understand what has happened, what each of you needs, and whether there is a path forward together. The goal isn't to force you to stay or convince you to leave—it’s to help you get out of the stuck place and make decisions with greater clarity.

What actually happens during a couples intensive?

This isn't just hours of sitting on a couch talking about what's wrong. We'll complete an in-depth assessment, look at the patterns that keep you stuck, explore your current strengths, slow down difficult conversations, identify what each person is really trying to communicate, and practice new ways of responding to one another. Depending on your goals, we may focus on communication, emotional connection, trust, conflict, intimacy, repair, boundaries, or making decisions about the future of your relationship. You'll also have opportunities to pause, breathe, and integrate the work along the way.

Is intensive therapy covered by insurance?

It depends. Some insurance plans may provide out-of-network or in-network coverage for one hour of an intensive, but insurance typically does not cover the additional time or specialized intensive format itself. Coverage varies based on your plan, provider status, and how the intensive is structured and billed.

What are the fees?

Monday-Thursday: $800 for 4-hour session

Friday-Saturday: $1200 for 4-hour session

*one-hour may be covered by insurance, if applicable.

What will we receive?

A Comprehensive Couples Assessment

We’ll assess the major areas of your relationship—including communication, conflict, emotional connection, intimacy, trust, friendship, shared values, roles and responsibilities, and areas of strength and growth. This gives us a clear picture of what’s working, what isn’t, and where your relationship has the greatest opportunity for change.

A Personalized Relationship Roadmap

Together, we’ll identify the patterns that are keeping you stuck and determine the most important areas to focus on moving forward. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of what needs to change and where to start.

Practical Take-Home Tools

You’ll receive tools and exercises designed to help you continue the work outside of the intensive—including communication strategies, conflict-repair tools, connection practices, and exercises tailored to your relationship.

Guided Conversations You’ve Been Avoiding

You’ll have protected time and professional guidance to address the conversations that are difficult to have on your own. We’ll slow things down, create space for both partners to be heard, and work toward understanding rather than simply winning the argument.

Skills You Can Practice Together

Rather than simply talking about your relationship, you’ll have opportunities to practice new ways of communicating, listening, regulating, repairing, and reconnecting with one another.

A Plan for What Comes Next

Before you leave, we’ll identify the next steps for your relationship—whether that means continuing couples therapy, implementing specific practices at home, scheduling follow-up support, or taking some time to determine what you both truly want.

Let's get a jump start on change!
